First the background: I am part way through my fourth year of teaching English as a foreign language. I love my job, although sometimes find the amount of lesson preparation I do frustrating but I guess I'm not alone in that.
I've learnt so much as a teacher from school directors, other teachers, conferences, blogs, books and students (see below) but now feel I need to push myself further. Apparently, when asked about my career plan at my last interview I said something along the lines of "I always try and look for new challenges before I get bored". Well I guess that time is approaching as just before Christmas I enrolled on the Distance DELTA to do module 1. I looked into the various options (I found this page on Sandy Millin's blog particularly useful) and what was available in my area. I couldn't take a year out and couldn't travel the two hours to Madrid twice a week whilst working hence the Distance DELTA option.
How do I feel? Well, I've bought a couple of books from the reading list which are getting me interested in and excited about the course. I've never done a distance learning course before - will I have the drive and motivation without direct contact time with the tutors? Time will tell but surely I can stay focused and put my social life on hold for the three months the first module takes...?
