In my last post on teaching English to businesses I talked about the variety of sources I find it necessary to draw from when planning English classes (and courses) to businesses. A lot of my students are at the advanced level (with some bordering on proficiency!) so authentic material is a great source (news articles, YouTube training videos, BBC podcasts etc) to develop lessons and activities around.
With this level some of the more humorous clips I find work particularly well. They help with the enjoyment level in the lesson as well as providing an authentic learning experience e.g. the VideoArts management videos featuring John Cleese on Youtube.
Don't forget how much businesses can learn from other areas of life. If for example you're teaching business leadership expressions and vocabulary, there's a lot to learn from leadership in sport - use areas that the students are interested in and feel comfortable with. For example, again on YouTube, what can be done with this clip of 40 inspirational speeches in two minutes?
I have provided a list of websites that I have used over the past few years here. Some I have plundered, others I have used to generate ideas - if you use any that I am missing, please let me know.
